Neon EVM has been busy with the buidl. While we have been keeping some cards close to our chest, those of you who follow the ecosystem know that our roadmap is strategic and our developers are dedicated.
Developing an EVM that abstracts away the complexity of the different memory, storage, and compute models is no small feat, and since July 2023, when we brought you the first EVM on Solana, we have not stopped building. This is why we are very excited to announce a new partnership that will further accelerate our pace of development — an alliance with Allbridge.
The Ethereum ecosystem is a rapidly evolving ecosystem, and Neon EVM must keep pace to ensure EVM compatibility for Ethereum dApps. In last year’s updated roadmap, Vitalik Buterin outlined transformations that will improve the entire ecosystem.
This partnership with Allbridge brings a highly respected and experienced team to assist with implementing compatibility with “The Splurge” phase. Allbridge will contribute to Neon EVM’s development to keep the EVM aligned with Ethereum’s advancements, starting with EOF (EVM Object Format).
EOF revolutionizes how smart contracts are compiled, deployed, and executed. This represents one of the biggest changes to the EVM since its introduction.
The Allbridge team will bring incredible expertise to focus on solutions to add support for the new binary smart contract format (EIP-3540), additional on-chain validation during deployment (EIP-3670 and EIP-5450), and support for new EVM opcodes (EIP-4200 and EIP-4750).
The team are already making impact and are testing the first modified version of Neon EVM to verify its compatibility with the new Solidity compiler. Now, the biggest challenge the Allbridge team faces is that the EOF support is still in development for the main EVM codebase as well as in the development tools, adding EOF support to Neon EVM must be done in parallel to the implementation by the Ethereum core developer team.
"It has been a great privilege to work with the Allbridge team; their first improvements to Neon EVM are impressive," said Andrey Falaleev, CTO of Neon Labs. "This alliance is an essential component to keeping pace with the ever-changing EVM landscape and ensuring our ongoing EVM compatibility".
